Also, I've only recently (well, recently in geologic terms) tried eating figs. I've always enjoyed them in their processed forms, but I actually found their pure form to be somewhat lacking, having a relatively indistinct flavor and a texture that just doesn't sit right on my tongue, teeth, or gums. Still, that's not to say that it was necessarily bad, nor was it without its charms; it just wasn't what I was hoping for. There's the possibility that I had a lame batch, or that I have to prepare them in someway other than just eating them, but right now, I'm not willing to give them another shot.
As such, I can only recommend figs with a single thumb.
(shhhhh... don't let this get out...The secret ingredient between the two forms of fig that you have experienced is called HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SUGAR...shhhh...)
