Personally, I pronounce it the third way, which combines the first two. It's nice because it only sounds somewhat more pretentious than the typical American pronunciation. But the real reason I pronounce it that way is because an archaeology professor I had in college - a real-life Indiana Jones-like old man, who had a frickin' pocket watch - pronounced it that way. While I'll never be as cool as him, I can at least pronounce "vase" the same way.

Perhaps "speciesist" would be a more fitting term. Some stereotypes are just hard to move beyond, don't you know...
